It was a chilly day, starting with that blasted fog I am so not fond of. It warmed a bit, but I was glad to get into the animal shelter to canoodle with the cats. There had been some kittens in quarantine being treated for ringworm, and I was delighted to see that the treatment went well and the little darlings were out in the general adoptable population. Their coats were soft and they still were trusting and sweet with people after all theyapos;d been through. I did not see an adoption this afternoon, which was disappointing, but I did enjoy playing with a pair of sisters (not in the quarantined group) who were the exact same size and had soft, lovely coats. A surprising thing about the animal shelter is that theyapos;ve taken in a person and his pets. Thereapos;s a homeless guy who lives in his van in the neighborhood. Heapos;s pretty old and had a lot of pets. The SPCA helped rehome two of his cats and is taking care of the very elderly fat cat, as well as the two dogs. I wonder if he will ever get on his feet again, but at least these folks are keeping an eye on him. I hear that he comes to visit his kitty in the office, which must be a nice break. He gets to sit on clean furniture and see his well-loved cat in a room filled with cat toys and supplies and doting staffers.
Its a sad state of affairs that an animal shelter is taking care of an old man. He could be one of those stubborn types, but still, no one should have to struggle like that after retirement.
