I think there is a republican conspiracy to make a republican out of me.

First of all I had and still have, serious reservations about Obama as president. I haven't decided yet and I don't think it'll make much difference what I do, since he's going to be the man no matter what happens. McCain may have survived 5 years in a POW camp but he isn't going to survive this campaign unless something breaks his way big time in the next few days.

Secondly, last night Peggy and I were eating in one of the local eateries with two good friends. I had just finished eating when lo and behold, a person appeared at our table out of the blue. It was Congressman Ed Whitfield. In all the years he's been in office in Washington, that was the first time I had seen him that he wasn't on official business that required him to be in Hoptown. He was also eating with friends at another table. He came over and chatted for about 5-10 minutes. He was very cordial and open in his conversation. Considering the friends at his table, I'm fairly sure he knew how I normally rant about him. He certainly didn't show any hard feelings toward me. Of course, I could be wrong and he didn't know, but I doubt that.

In any case, score another one for the republicans. I'm going to lighten up on Ed. One thing I noticed in the conversation that is a little unusual in politicians, he seemed to listen when our male friend at the table was talking. Very unusual. I was so caught off guard, I couldn't think of anything to bring up that would help us out of the hole we're in here. That means I was REALLY caught off guard. I never miss an opportunity to get something in the politician's mind when I get to see one, especially the Washington types.

Oh well. Mr. Whitfield has only token opposition so his re-election is assured. I was just glad to see him in a public setting not on official business. As I said, I'll lighten up.
